Thursday 10th March 2022 was the second anniversary of the passing of our much loved and sorely missed friend Yasmine van Brandtzaeg.

After her funeral at Gunnersbury, I had promised that all who knew, loved and appreciated her should get together one year after her passing to celebrate her life, and remember our happy times with her.
I had originally envisioned that it would be on 10th March 2021 or on what would have been her 53rd birthday on 4th April 2021.

That was before Covid intervened and threw all our lives into lockdowns, chaos or worse. In the meantime, her good friend Mark Dimac and Yazzy’s Bengal cat Oscar have both also passed away.

I thought of using one of the pubs which she liked, but after suggesting this to a few people, the general consensus was that the most suitable place to meet up would be at the Tabernacle (thetabernaclew11.com) where many knew her and she often sang with friends.

I have booked a space for us there from 2pm to 8pm Saturday 9th April 2022, so that we will have the use of the ground floor side dining area at the back near the kitchen.

I am sending this missive to everyone on the original list of friends etc. and as I am sure to miss a few people, please pass on the details.

I will bring photos, videos, of Yazzy, on a MacBook laptop and hope to have a keyboard and microphone for singers to use. There is free parking in that area after 13:30 Hr on Saturdays.

Thank you for your attention.

Good Morning Nueva York

One of Yazzy’s friends was kind enough to notify the folks at WBAI New York radio of her passing and they played one of her songs on the radio. I’ve put up the file below so you can have a listen. Unfortunately, it seems to be a little slower than the original version and suffers a little but you can listen to the originals on Soundcloud here: https://soundcloud.com/yazzcat

The song is If You Could See Me Now, the host King Downing speaks a little about her at 9:45 into the audio file below. Yasmin, I wish I could see you now and everyday.

In Loving Memory

We are very sad to report the sudden death of Yazzy at her home in Faraday Road.

She was much loved, and known locally in London for her musical talents and amazing jazz singing as well as her vibrant and kind personality. She was often seen around Portobello and at City Lit in her wheelchair and was a beloved part of the community. She will be sorely missed.

Funeral (if possible during current virus crisis) will be 2pm 16th April. She had asked a number of friends to arrange for her to be buried next to her aunt Suzanne Manzi and near her father in Gunnersbury Cemetery.

May we keep a part of her alive in our words and actions and remember her kind soul that brought a ray of sunshine wherever she went.

Love to you all,
Charles & John Lucy
